It has been a really LOOONG time since I last blogged, but I have been busy reading, stamping and living life. I LOVED this book! The 57 Bus is a nonfiction, young-adult book. The book opens with the best first chapter I have ever read. In fact, I read it aloud to my 7th and 8th grade students as an example of cliffhanger, interesting word choice and stimulating non-fiction. The crime that changes lives involves a lighter, a skirt, a bus, Sasha and Richard.
I learned about community and stereotypes. I learned about agender and race. I hope young adults read this book and learn also!
The card I made uses the polished stone technique as a background and the “Enjoy Life” stamp set.
I wanted the background to represent fire so I used a technique called polished stone that I found on YouTube. Here’s the link: Polished Stone technique. Melissa Kerman talks about using a foil paper, but it just needs to be a glossy paper (Stampin Up’s glossy paper is now discontinued). On the 5×3-3/4″ glossy paper, I used four ink refills that are discontinued colors because those were the only ones I had. They are yellow, orange, red and pink. The “Enjoy Life” stamps are inked in black Memento ink.
The card base is Real Red (looks pink in photo) cut to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, then folded at 4-1/4. Once I made the polished stone front and stamped the “Enjoy Life” sentiments, I added a couple of black faceted dots and some black 1/2″ ribbon.
