“Off with their heads!” is a line you may recognize having been uttered by the Queen of Hearts in the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Have you ever wondered why she says that? How she became the Queen of Hearts? Probably not.
In Heartless, Marissa Meyer gives the “behind-the-scenes” story of Catherine. Her lost love, her life-changing choices and her angry demeanor all came about with reasons. I really enjoyed all the characters in the book and some of the allusions to other works of literature. Meyer made the Queen a person we can care about.
The card I created includes lots of hearts (really!) and a saying from the new Sunny Days stamp set. “You can do the hard things” is a message to the Queen of Hearts to remind her that her choices led to her circumstances but that she will survive.
The base of the card is Whisper White cut into a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 piece. Then I scored at 4-1/4. The white paper with red hearts is from a retired designer series paper pack. I cut the 6×6 piece into a 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 piece to cover the entire front of the card. The Real Red paper is 5 x 3-3/4. I used the Happy Hearts embossing folder to add some texture to the card.
I stamped the sentiment in Real Red on a piece of Whisper White scrap paper. I trimmed it down to fit the size of the sentiment. I punched three hearts using the owl builder punch. It is retired but I located one on ebay. It makes great owls and penguins. I found some heart-shaped rhinestones at JoAnn Fabrics that I used to add some bling (queens like bling!). I then attached the banner with dimensionals to give it some depth.
